This is the leader and organiser’s account of the Antarctic cruise of the Southern Cross, the first expedition to winter in the Antarctic continent and the first to use dogs in the Antarctic. The party made first landings on Coulman Island and Ross Island, built a hut at Cape Adare, and were the first to travel over the Ross Ice Shelf, establishing a new furthest south.
