A gentleman's very fine Geneva minute repeating pocket watch Case: 18k gold, polished, à goutte, engraved monogram "RS", badge and motto: "Virescit Vulnere Virtus" ("Courage grows strong at a wound") of the Clan Stewart, numbered and signed gold dome, case maker's punch mark "MP", slide for repeating mechanism. Movm.: bridge movement, nickel silver, "fausses côtes" decoration, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, gold train, wolfteeth winding wheels, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever. Clan Stewart Although this clan is inextricably bound up with the Royal House of Stuart, which provided kings and queens for both England and Scotland, there are highland clans, which also bear the nameStewart. However, there is no single figure that is recognized as the chief of the clan. Instead, individual branches of the clan have their own chief e.g. Andrew Francis Stewart, 17th of Appin, and Crichton-Stuart, John Colum, 7th Marquess of the County of Bute. As for the importance of the maker of the movement it will suffice to recall that some of the most complicated watches by Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, including Packard's tourbillion Clock-Watch, had movements made by Victorin Piguet. Cond.: Case: very good, slightly worn. Dial: very good. Movm.: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended.
