Rare trio of Welsh [Rugby] Football Union gold badges awarded to J. Jarrett of the Match Committee for the Wales internationals v New Zealand, France and South Africa between 1905 and 1912,comprising: a 1905 Wales v New Zealand 9ct gold lapel badge, obverse with applied Welsh and New Zealand leek and fern emblems, WFR enamelled lettering, reverse with badge pin, hallmarked Birmingham 1905 by William James Dingley, 37 by 27mm., weight 14gms.; 1908 Wales v France 9ct gold lapel badge, obverse with enamelled WFR lettering and legend INTERNATIONAL MATCH, MARCH 2 1908, with rugby ball flanked by leek and fleur de lys shields, reverse with badge pin, hallmarked Birmingham 1907 by H.B. Crouch Cardiff, 40 by 30mm., weight 13gms. and 1912-13 Wales v South Africa 9ct gold lapel badge, obverse enamelled with a dragon and springbok flanking a rugby ball with legend 1912-13, reverse with badge pin, hallmarked Birmingham 1912 by H.B. Crouch Cardiff, 30 by 26mm., weight 8gms.; sold together with J. Jarrett's brown crocodile leather wallet, inscribed with gilt tooling WELSH FOOTBALL UNITON 1901-1902 J.JARRETT, MATCH COMMITTEE, ADMIT TO ALL MATCHES UNDER CONTROL OF THE WELSH FOOTBALL UNION, the interior with two pockets, 14.5 by 11cm., wallet bears wear and surface marks, some minor enamel losses to badges (4)Wales defeated New Zealand in the first 'All Blacks' tour 3-0, at Cardiff Arms Park on 16th December 1905. Wales defeated France in the International fixture 36-4, at Cardiff Arms Park on 2nd March 1908. South Africa defeated Wales 3-0, at Cardiff Arms Park on 14th December 1912.Exhibited (on loan):The RFU Museum, Twickenham, 2008 to 2020.
