Original decal attributed to Yves Tanguy. Signed and dedicated on verso in ink by his wife Jeannette Tanguy: à mon grand ami Gaston Ferdière en qui j'ai grande confiance de tout cœur Jeannette Tanguy.
In 1932, Yves Tanguy met Marcel Jean, who introduced him to decalcomania, as did Oscar Dominguez. Most of the decals were produced in 1936.
Although Jeannette Tanguy took part in cadavres exquis with Yves, André Breton and Jacqueline Lambat, to our knowledge and that of two Yves Tanguy specialists, she did not make any decals. Several of Yves Tanguy's decals were made on the same paper as the one described here.
In 1938, Tanguy met Kay Sage, for whom he divorced Jeannette, and they settled permanently in the United States in 1939.
On the reverse of the decal given to Dr. Gaston Ferdière, a famous psychiatrist, she confirms her trust and friendship in a difficult sentimental period for her. Decals are rarely signed, but this one, dedicated by Jeannette Tanguy, can reasonably be attributed to Yves Tanguy.
