LARGE "tomb"-shaped COMMODE in violet-wood veneer... Lot 280


LARGE "tomb"-shaped COMMODE in violet-wood veneer opening to five drawers on three rows with crosspieces adorned with brass fluting. Protruding uprights, Aleppo Breche marble top with double molding and corbin spout. Exceptional ornamentation of chased and varnished bronzes: drop handles with leafy rosettes, radiating keyholes, leafy falls adorned with lion skins surmounting a dolphin in the waves, lion-protruding feet, lower "bridge and whiskers" drawer and sides adorned with leafy floral cartouches. Fir wood frame, walnut drawers.
Iron mark "AI" in a circle, probably an owner's mark.
By Mathieu Criaerd, 1689 - 1776, received maitre in 1738 (not stamped)
Louis XV period, probably circa 1730, before Criaerd's mastery

Small dents and missing veneer, inner nuts on handles replaced.
