Victorian Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, Crested Officer’s Mameluke Hilted Sword by Wilkinson of London. A magnificent example, believed to have been carried by an equerry to the Princess. The slightly curved single edged unfullered scimitar blade with etched decoration, depicting The Princess’s cypher to both sides with the addition of a family crest of an Oak Tree with a shield resting beside it. and initials “S.W.”. The forte with the cutler’s details of Wilkinson and the blade is numbered 22809 (Circa 1878). The hilt with gilt Cross guard with embossed floral decoration, to the centre the Princess’s cypher in silver. Two piece plain grip with two gilt floral pateri. Housed in polished steel scabbard, with embossed floral gilt mounts, fitted with two loose rings. Near VGC.
