A black-lacquer kobako (small box) with en-suite cover By Teijosai, late 19th century Of rectangular form with rounded corners, bearing a roiro ground, lacquered in relief on the cover with two tsuba one of simulated iron, carved with an openwork design of a carp in waves, inscribed Masaharu , the other imitating shibuichi , with a design of Jurojin, inscribed Konkan with a kao , the interior of roiro with sparse hirame flakes; signed Teijosai with a kao . 6.4cm x 13.6cm x 10.5cm (2½in x 5 3/8in x 4 1/8in).
