1949 Bentley Mk. VI Special

1949 Bentley Mk. VI Special Transmission: Mileage:57889 The Bentley Mk. VI was the first post-war luxury car from Bentley, produced from 1946 to 1952. It was also the first car from Rolls-Royce with factory coachwork although chassis were still also supplied to independent coachbuilders. The chassis and engine went on to be used as the basis of those in the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith of 1946 and Silver Dawn of 1949. The factory bodies were made by Pressed Steel Ltd of Coventry and sent to the Bentley works at Crewe for painting and fitting out with traditional wood and leather.Applying the aeronautical skills he learnt whist working at De Havilland, the well-respected engineer John Anderson built 12 Mk. VI Specials, each one unique in its own way. This 1949 registered Bentley was built by him in 1984 and, after being converted to a ‘Special’, spent most of its life in Australia. When the owner passed away, the car was then sold to Anderson’s son. This Mk. VI Special has been used on a regular basis by the knowledgeable vendor and enjoyed immensely. The 4¼ litre engine starts on the button and runs very well. The gearbox operates as it should and this Bentley offers brisk performance, particularly taking into account it is 72 years old. The green coachwork is in good order as is the aluminium bonnet. The black leather interior presents well and is complemented by the wooden dashboard and easy to read dials. The proportions of this Mk. VI Special are very good making this a very handsome car indeed - it is easy to see why the vendor has enjoyed using this car as his daily driver! Supplied with a UK V5C registration document this Bentley is only being sold due to a change in the vendor’s circumstances.
