Kirin. Kuang-hsü 50 Cents CD 1901 MS63 PCGS, Kirin mint, KM-Y182a.1, L&M-538, K-431. An exquisite Kirin "Yin-yang" Half Dollar that is of notable importance not only due to the obviously fantastic state of preservation but also due to the quality of the strike. Even in Mint State, this issue often displays significant strike weakness on the central design motifs but this specimen is much better struck than most, showing definition to the dragon's jaw, whiskers, and the orb just below. Confirming the Choice Mint State designation, this lovely piece is a shimmering ivory white in appearance with an ample dusting of mint frost and just a light veil of champagne tone to affirm some originality. Examples as technically superior as this, and also with the eye-appeal to match, don't come up for auction often.
