A RED KESI ROBE WITH CRANE MEDALLIONS FOR A LADY

Slit tapestry (kesi) silk (red, graduated tones of blue, green, purple, yellow), gold thread. Bordering bands: silk with gold background and wide bands in slit knitting with black background. Lining supplemented. The usual dragons are here substituted by eight large crane medallions. More smaller ones are scattered in the edging and on the sleeves. This robe was made for a festivity, probably a wedding, as the red background is indicating. The fine slit tapestry is of fairly good quality, but does not reach that of the 18th century. Many details are finely painted with pigments and not woven. Characteristic of the period of Cixi, the sleeves are very wide, but still posses the traditional horse hoof cuffs of Manchu robes.

Rote 'kesi'-Kranichrobe für eine Dame

Schlitzwirkerei (kesi) aus Seide (Rot, abgestuften Töne von Blau, Grün, Violett, Gelb), Goldfaden. Einfassungsbänder: Seide mit Goldgrund und breite Bänder in Schlitzwirkerei mit schwarzem Fond. Futter ergänzt. Auf der Roben finden sich anstatt der üblichen Drachen acht große Kranichmedaillons. Weitere kleinere sind in den Einfassbändern und auf den Ärmeln verteilt. Der rote Grund macht klar, dass diese Robe für eine Festlichkeit, wahrscheinlich eine Hochzeit gefertigt wurde. Die feinteilige Schlitzwirkerei ist von recht guter Qualität, erreicht jedoch nicht mehr jene des 18. Jahrhunderts. Viele Details sind mit Pigmenten fein gemalt und nicht gewebt. Charakteristisch für die Zeit von Cixi sind die sehr weit gestalteten Ärmel, die jedoch die traditionellen Pferdehufmanschetten der Mandschu-Roben aufweisen.
