Pocket watch: important gold/enamel watch with repeater & music, attributed to Piguet & Meylan Geneve 4147

Ø56.5mm, approx. 144g, 18K gold, serial number 4147, attributed to Piguet & Meylan Geneve, enamelled case in fantastic quality, both sides set with half Oriental pearls, back attractively engine-turned and translucent red enamel, typical Piguet & Meylan band, also the pendant and the bow of this musical watch were enamelled polychrome in champlevé style, light blue background, small oval cartouches in red engine turned enamel matching the back lid, cylinder escapement, repeating the hours and quarters, very fine musical movement sounding on demand. Perfectly preserved enamel dial, beautiful steel hands, centre seconds. The quality and condition of this important Geneva enamel watch is outstanding. The movement, repeater and music all work. The watch was made around 1815 for the Chinese market. The design, quality and serial number speak for the important Geneva maker Piguet & Meylan. Provenance: Dr. Crott 93rd auction, sold for 75,000€. Philippe Samuel Meylan, born in Bas-du-Chenit on 15 February 1772, died in 1845. At the age of 20, he came to Geneva, where he worked as a master craftsman for Godemar Freres. He then went back to Brassus, where he founded a small factory in 1811. He returned to Geneva, where he settled permanently. There he met another watchmaker from his village, Isaac Piguet, with whom he joined forces and founded the company Piguet & Meylan, which existed from 1811 to 1828. It specialised in musical watches and automata. Daniel Isaac Piguet, born in Chenit in 1775, died in Geneva in 1841.
