Rare cabriolet réalisé par Chapron, cette D8 120 dispose d'un historique incroyable. Elle fut achetée neuve par la grand-mère de l'actuel propriétaire qui en hérita lui-même de son père. Cette voiture qui n'a connu qu'une seule et même famille a ainsi traversé les époques sans jamais être revendue ni délaissée. La documentation qui accompagne la voiture est le témoin de cette histoire unique et se compose notamment du bon de commande d'origine en date du 21 février 1938, de la carte de garantie du constructeur Delage ainsi que du reçu du règlement complet de la voiture. Elle est équipée de la boîte Cotal à 4 rapports et d'une sellerie tout en cuir rouge et d'une capote doublée en alpaga. Avec une caisse de couleur beige et des ailes couleur bordeaux, elle fut très certainement restaurée dans les années 50 ou 60 et peinte dans une teinte différente de celle d'origine alors que la voiture séjournait dans le midi. Cette voiture roula régulièrement avant d'être immobilisée sans rouler ces dernières années, ce qui a pu dégrader son état. Saine mais conservée en l'état depuis sa première restauration, elle mérite une restauration à la hauteur de son histoire. Tournante, elle devra cependant bénéficier d'un contrôle mécanique général. Son état de présentation est satisfaisant, on notera quelques éclats et défauts de peinture mais les alignements sont corrects. La sellerie tout comme les boiseries qui sont celles d'origine témoignent de la qualité des matériaux d'époque bien que certains éléments aient logiquement subis l'usure du temps. Cette voiture à l'histoire exceptionnelle mérite de rejoindre une importante collection et de reprendre la route pour le plus grand bonheur de ceux qui pourront la conduire ou la croiser. Powered by a straight-eight engine, this acclaimed chassis was bodied by the very best coachbuilders. The example on offer is outstanding for more than one reason. A rare cabriolet built by Chapron, the history of this D8 120 is incredible. It was bought new by the grandmother of the current owner, whose father had passed the car on to him. It is an automobile that has travelled through the years in the hands of just one family and has never been sold or neglected. The documentation with the car recounts this unique story, and includes the original purchase order dated 21 February 1938, the warranty card from the manufacturer Delage, and the receipt for the full settlement of the car. It has a 4-speed Cotal gearbox, full red leather upholstery and an alpaca-lined hood. Presented in beige with burgundy wings, the car was probably restored during the 1950s or 1960s, and painted in non-original colours, while residing in the Midi. It was driven regularly before being laid up in recent years, which may have caused some mechanical deterioration, as a result. Sound, and conserved as it was following its first restoration, the car now deserves a full restoration in keeping with its special history. The engine turns over, but the car would benefit from a general mechanical overhaul. The coachwork is presented in satisfactory condition, with one or two chips and defects in the paintwork, but aligned correctly. The upholstery and wood trim is original, reflecting the high quality of materials used in period, although some elements have understandably suffered from the passage of time. This car, with such an exceptional history, now deserves to join an important collection and take to the road once more, to bring joy to those who drive it or even come across it on the street.
