D N MARCIA-NVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust of Marcian facing, head slightly right, spear in right hand over shoulder, shield decorated with horseman motif in left / VICTORI-A AVGGG B, Victory standing facing, head left, long jeweled cross with horizontal crossbar in right hand; star in right field, CONOB in exergue. RIC X 510. Nicely centered on lustrous, circular flan.

Marcian's short reign proved to be consequential - he ended tribute payments to the Huns and convoked (with the significant assistance of his wife Pulcheria) the Council of Chalcedon in AD 451, which affirmed the orthodox doctrine of Christ's two natures.
