Large Cents 1793 1C Chain, AMERI., S-1, B-1, R.4, VG10

Large Cents
1793 1C Chain, AMERI., S-1, B-1, R.4, VG10 PCGS. A pleasing medium brown representative of the introductory large cent variety, distinctive for its abbreviated AMERICA. The most likely explanation is that the die sinker believed that completing the word would reduce the aesthetic appeal of the layout of the peripheral legend. On the present example, all four date digits are apparent and the other peripheral legends are bold. The EN in CENT is faint, as is the numerator. Mildly granular near the RT in LIBERTY, the obverse has a few slender flan striations, and an unobtrusive thin mark crosses the jaw. Nonetheless, the surfaces are exemplary for the designated grade.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2015), lot 3743.
