MALAYA AND BRITISH BORNEO. Board of Commissioners of Currency. 1

MALAYA AND BRITISH BORNEO. Board of Commissioners of Currency. 1 Dollar, ND (1962-66). P-Unlisted. KNB-10P. Printer's Design. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Blue and yellow, Tunku Abdul Rahman at right, '1' within vignette at left, watermark at center, reverse blue, 16 coats of arms. The second highest graded note in the PMG population report out of a population of eight. A flawless note with stunning colors. Printed by Harrisons and Sons (H&S) and similar in appearance to the issue of 1953, but with Queen Elizabeth II's portrait replaced by Abdul Rahman to signal the newly independent Malaya. Banknotes of Malaya and British Borneo were printed by either Waterlow or De La Rue at the time and presumably Harrisons, which mainly printed stamps, was trying to obtain a contract to print banknotes for the nascent country. Recent past results include a PMG 50 and PMG 63-EPQ being sold for SGD31,200 (approximately USD$23,200) and GBP27,600 (approximately USD$35,000). A phenomenally rare note of great historical interest in top grade it has all the features of an iconic note. Simply superb.

Estimate: $15000 - $25000
