Paul Kallos (1928-2001) Composition 1980 Pastel... Lot 64

Paul Kallos (1928-2001)
Composition 1980 Pastel on paper signed and dated lower right 65 x 50 cm It was during a period of immobilization forced by illness that Paul Kallos forged his first links with the creative process. A painter of Hungarian origin, he began training at the Budapest School of Fine Arts in 1945, after having experienced the horror of the Nazi concentration camps, from which he escaped aged just 15! In Paris, from 1950, he was represented by gallery owner Pierre Loeb (Joan Miró, Vassily Kandinky, Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso etc.), and made friends with major figures on the art scene such as Raoul Ubac, André Lanskoy, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Zao Wou-Ki and Olivier Debré. Influenced by the currents of lyrical abstraction and tachism, he switched from oil to acrylic, whose fluidity enables him to explore abstract, misty, atmospheric landscapes that invite contemplation.
