[ Books ] The Drawing School for Little Masters and Misses, containing the most easy and concise Rules for Learning to Draw, to which are added the Whole Art of Kite Making, by Master Michael Angelo, second edition, engraved frontspiece and title-page, woodcut illustrations, slightly stained, small piece cut from outer margin of frontispiece, original pictorial boards, lacking most of backstrip and some of pictorial surface from foot of lower cover, with two ownership inscriptions of Samuel Johnson, one dated Decemr23 1789, [Roscoe J15 (2)], 12mo, T Carnan, 1774 E400 - 600 This is a very early example of pictorial boards Roscoe locates several copies of the second edition, but none are in this binding The covers each have a large wood-engraved illustration, the upper cover depicting a young couple dancing to a pipe and tabor below a tree, with an older couple seated in the foreground; the lower cover depicting a boy throwing fruit from a tree to his companions below, a man seated below the tree with a dog Both are within elaborate rococco borders
