Bernardo Daddi Circle (Florence, active circa 1312-1348)

Bernardo Daddi Circle (Florence, active circa 1312-1348) "The Coronation of Mary" Tempera on panel. 66 x 36 cm. Bernardo Daddi was an important Florentine painter, active in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. After the death of Giotto, Daddi became the most prominent painter in Florence. His early works revealed the influence of Giotto's models, as can be seen in the frescoes of the Pulci-Berardi chapel in the Santa Croce church in Florence. By the 1330s, Daddi had a prosperous workshop with many assistants, and he produced numerous small artworks for private use. During this time, the influence of the Lorenzetti brothers became evident in his work. Some of his most notable paintings include the 1333 Bigallo Triptych and the Uffizi polyptych with The Virgin Mary, the Child, and the Saints. Later, Daddi created works such as the triptych for the Courtauld Institute in London in 1338 and the Madonna for Orcagna's tabernacle in 1346-47. Daddi died in Florence in 1348 during the plague epidemic.   Reference bibliography: - Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza. (s.f.).
