Gyula Andreas Burbarnik (Hungarian, 1936 - 2010)

Born in 1936 in a small town in Hungary, Bubarnik was raised in rural Hungary on his family farm. Precociously, and compelled at a young age to express his innate artistic spirit, he was already sketching fruits and insects in his farmyard area by the age of ten. Bubarnik gradually evolved into a learned artist, deeply interested in the history and techniques of fine art. His sensitive use of colour and his very precise technique of painting distinguish his work from that of most other artist. He shows us the inner beauty of simple objects, and opens our eyes to the luscious side of nature. You can taste the fruits - and he entices you to try and sweep the dust off an old bottle. His best studio story is that one morning he came into his workspace and saw a butterfly on his painting; a deadly mistake, the painting was still wet.
