A late 19th century Egyptian brass military tunic button

A late 19th century Egyptian brass military tunic button embossed with the star and crescent, later adapted as brooch, reputedly cut off the tunic of Arabic Pasha, Ahmed Urubi (1841-1911) after he was taken prisoner at the battle of Tell El Kebir, by Colonel Hume-Spre, 2nd Life Guards. He was the first Brit. officer to enter the Pasha's tent in the aftermath of the battle and seeing the Pasha's tunic lying on the camp bed he took his knife and cut off the buttons, of which this one he had made into a brooch diameter 2.1 cm Condition: Fair condition This lot is accompanied by a hand written note by the niece of Colonel Hume-Spre, supporting the provenance of this lot.
