A LOUIS XV MARQUETRY, ORMOLU MOUNTED AND BRECHE D'ALEP MARBLE BOMBE COMMODE BY ANTOINE MATTHIEU CRIAERD, MID 18TH CENTURY Stamped 'A M CRIARD' and 'JME' 87cm high, 130cm wide, 63cm deepAntoine Matthieu Criaerd (1689-1776), maître in 1738; variously spelt Criard/Criaerd, and his work displays two stamps, the first 'M. CRIAERD', the second 'A M CRIARD' Condition Report: Commode with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits and chips. Various old repairs in places throughout - see images. A larger crack to one side of the commode (resulting in some subsequent losses to the veneers) - see images for extent. Another smaller carck to the other side. No key present but both locks are open. The mounts are possibly original. However, it is possible that handles and escutcheons have been replaced with high quality old examples. The ormolu has the expected wear, tarnishing, some re-securing and knocks. Evidence of old worm (with filler to disguise) to all four legs. some evidence of old worm also to the backboards. Old repairs to one rear leg - see images.
