Bowes-Lyon family Scots Guards Sword. A fine and important example made by Wilkinson of London and carried by The Hon P.Bowes-Lyon, brother to HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The sword was later refurbished by Wilkinson and carried by hcs son The Hon J.P.Bowes- Lyon who was killed in action during the second World War. The blade etched with battle honours of the regiment and the regimental device with crown above. Reverse with further battle honours and Gvr cypher.The blade is with Wilkinson number 39937 The hilt with the regimentalbadge, shagreen grip with copper wire binding. Complete with dark brown leather field service scabbard, also with scabbard frog and leather sword knot. The sword has been refurbished VGC . See Illustration E600-800 The Wilkinson number confirms that the sword was ordered for The Hon P.Bowes-Lyon. 1st Scots Guards 23rd October 1903 Wilkinson Sword has confirmed that when a blade is refurbished for use it is common for the Battle Honours and cypher to the blade be updated. 992 A fine late 18th Century French small sword. The sword is with a trefoil tapering blade retaining its blue and gilt engraved panel. The panel is engraved with a trophy of Arms, floral decoration and the makers name J Spol Md Sourlifseux. The fire gilt shell guard is embossed with a classical Roman warrior with Roman regimental Eagles to the back ground. A mother of pearl grip is within fire gilt mounts with embossed decoration and complete with stirrup guard. Scabbard absent. 90 % of blue and gilt present. Blade length 32.5inches. See Illustration
