MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

明 法華龍紋三足爐

the large body of compressed globular form supported by three stout legs modeled with mustachioed masks above club feet, with wide flaring handles projecting from the shoulder framing the short straight neck and flush ring mouth. The main body of the exterior modeled in high relief with two sinuous three-clawed dragons cavorting between large peony blossoms, one of which encloses a seated figure, the neck with carved dragons in tighter relief, and the mouth ring encircled in two bands of raised bosses framing a single flaming pearl.

Height 17 1/2 in., 44.45 cm.
