He first gained prominence for his sharp, satirical commentary on contemporary society, which he expresses through a diverse range of artistic mediums. Known for his ability to critique social norms with wit and humour, Perry's work delves into issues of class, identity, gender, and culture. His creative portfolio is impressively varied, encompassing everything from intricate ceramics and tapestries to vibrant prints, sculptures, and even cross-disciplinary projects in television and writing. Perry released the limited edition Gay Black Cats MC to mark the opening of his 2017 solo exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery. This handmade appliqué flag draws inspiration from Asafo flags, which historically served as visual symbols for military companies among the Fante people in present-day Ghana, from the 18th century onwards. As an avid motorcycling enthusiast, Perry created this flag for a fictional motorcycle gang, blending cultural references with his personal passions.
