☼A RARE PARADE STICK, India, 19th century

In a stylized form of a fork supported by two beautifully carved full-round lions, the two ends terminate with an elephant head. Catalog Notes: This staff likely served to support the arm of the Maharaja during audiences or a parade, and its use emphasized the solemnity of the ceremony.
