A JAPANESE MEIJI/TAISHO BRONZE OF HOTEI BY RYUKI (NOGAMI TATSUOKI), 20TH CENTURY. By Ryuki (Nogami Tatsuoki, 1865-1932). Signed by the artist on the bottom. 28cm wide x 20cm deep x 20cm high, weight 3.35kg.
Ref: Works by Ryuki were exhibited widely including at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900. He studied at the Tokyo School of Art under Oshima Joun (1858-1940), one of the most notable metal craftsmen of the Meiji era. Ryuki was in charge of the casting and finishing of the statue of Kusunoki in front of the Imperial Palace and the statue of Saigo Takamori in Ueno Park (both in Tokyo), which were commissioned by the Tokyo School of Fine Arts.
