Processional cross with a wooden core and lead assemblage from a later period. The piece shows the body of Christ, still alive although the face is not very detailed, in the same way as the musculature of the body. As for the technical workmanship of the piece, it is worth mentioning the ornamental work on the cross, which ends in poly-lobed blades, which are profusely ornamented.
This type of piece was used for important liturgical events, such as processions, and was often changed when there were financial means to do so and in line with new fashions. Precious metals and materials such as gold, silver, gilded silver, enamel, precious stones, etc. were preferred, but if the parish or ecclesiastical authority could not afford them, they were made in other more humble but richer-looking materials, such as gilded copper. In this second case, too, the fashions and techniques of silverware were followed, and striking similarities can be found in works made of different materials.
