Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles 1911 $20 MS65 PCGS. The 1911

Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1911 $20 MS65 PCGS. The 1911 double eagle had a mintage of 197,250 business strikes, and examples are reasonably available through the Select and Choice Mint State grade levels. Gems are scarce, however, and the two major services have only seen a combined total of 117 MS65 pieces, with a mere 42 coins graded even higher.
This is a lovely coin with strong eye appeal. Vibrant luster and smooth, mattelike surfaces are seen on each side. Fully struck, with complete definition on the Capitol building, Liberty's hair tresses and fingers, and the eagle's breast feathers. Population: 71 in 65 (16 in 65+), 26 finer (10/23).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2014), lot 5858, where it brought $17,625. From The William K. Harter Collection, Part II.
