France Republic gold Specimen "Hanoi Exposition" Medal 1887 SP63

France
Republic gold Specimen "Hanoi Exposition" Medal 1887 SP63 PCGS, 40mm. 56.65gm. A substantial gold medal struck for the Hanoi exposition of 1887, featuring Oudiné's famous Liberty portrait on the obverse, the reverse declaring the occasion of the striking within central wreath and surrounded by the legend "Protectorat de L'Annam et du Tonkin" (the Protectorate of Annam and Tonkin). In the same year these territories would be consolidated into a reorganized French Indochina. Stuck in an impressive degree of relief with any handling proving minimally distracting due to the matte-like finish of the surfaces.
