1873 $5 Closed 3 MS63 NGC. CAC. During 1873, double eagle production was favored at Philadelphia, and the Closed 3 half eagle mintage was only 112,480 pieces. The issue is very scarce in any Mint State grade, and MS63 examples are rare. This caramel-gold representative is lustrous and shows minor incompleteness of strike on the lovelock. Moderate marks on noted on Liberty's eyebrow and the field above the bust tip. Census: 7 in 63 (2 in 63+), 1 finer. CAC: 5 in 63, 4 finer (11/23).
