§ Gerda Flöckinger, CBE, (b.1927), a coral ring, the round coral cabochon set among organically textured yellow precious metal in a form resembling a crown, inset with circular disc makers mark 'G F', ring size L-M Provenance: Gerda Flöckinger is a pre-eminent Austrian/British jeweller who flourished in the mid-20th century. Austrian by birth, she came to England as a child and studied firstly Fine Art and then jewellery and enamelling. She was a pioneer in her field, starting her own jewellery business in 1956 and going on to teach at Hornsey College of Art in the 1960s. In 1971, she became the first contemporary jeweller to have a solo exhibition at the V&A (who still hold several of her pieces in their collection). This piece is typical of her work, showing organic forms and molten surface grains and textures contrasting against the smooth surface of the coral.
