SELEUKID KINGS. Demetrios I Soter, 162-150 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.22 g, 9 h), Ekbatana, circa 152-150. Diademed head of Demetrios I to right; to left, star. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩ[Σ] - ΔHMHTPIOY / ΣΩΤΗΡ[ΟΣ] Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; to outer right, monogram; in exergue, monogram. CSE -. HGC 9, 791. SC 1730.2. Very rare. Attractive iridescent toning. Struck from a slightly worn obverse die and with light doubling and a minor flan fault on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

This beautifully executed series of fine style is distinguished by a star placed behind the king's head. The coins are likely to date from the final years of Demetrios I's reign, shortly before the eastern part of the empire descended into chaos and was ultimately lost.
