Proof Seated Dollars 1842 $1 PR63 NGC. OC-P1, R.7
Proof Seated Dollars
1842 $1 PR63 NGC. OC-P1, R.7. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a, as always. A soft peach glow deepens to russet at the periphery, with a pop of electric blue near RIC on the reverse. Several tiny marks at Star 11 and 12 as well as above the left wing identify this coin. The obverse is well-defined, but some typical reverse weakness exists on the upper half of the left wing and on the neck.
The sole proof die marriage of the year can be differentiated from the eight business strike die marriages by the use of the workhorse Reverse 1840 PA and its defective A3. We have only been able to positively identify eight survivors, with an additional ten auction results possibly yielding additional examples. Additionally, this is the first appearance of this date of proof Seated dollar from either Heritage of Stacks Bowers since October, 2015, making this a rare opportunity for the specialist to add this important coin to their collection.
