Early Eagles 1803 $10 Small Reverse Stars, BD-3, R.4, XF45

Early Eagles
1803 $10 Small Reverse Stars, BD-3, R.4, XF45 PCGS. Housed in a green-label PCGS holder. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/c, or possibly earlier as no die cracks or clash marks are noted on either side of this example. The reverse die was previously used for the 1801 BD-2 die marriage and this example, showing no obvious signs of lapping, conceivably represents an earlier die state than the last of the 1801 coins. The BD-3 die marriage is the obvious choice for a date collection of early eagles, as this is the usually encountered 1803 variety, ranking 28th out of 33 issues for rarity. Hints of green are noted on the straw-gold surfaces of this example that has lightly reflective fields. The reverse has intermingled hairlines and adjustment marks. www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
