A Monumental Sculpture 'Large Flower'

Gädecke/Pfab no. 280. - Sculptor in Hamburg and leading representative of the steel plastic in Germany. After a training as stonemason, Pfab studied at the HfBK since 1946 in the class of Edwin Scharff. First he executed his works in bronze, as from 1961 in Chrome-Nickel-Molybdenum-Steel and therefore he had to learn the technology of welding. The most important for him was the monumental sculpture defined by prismatic, cubic and spheric structures. His large oeuvre contains not only numerous works for the Public Space but also small-sized sculptures as well as design objects. Mus.: Schleswig (SHLM), Hamburg (Kunsthalle). 1984/85. Aluminiumguss. Eines von zwei Exemplaren (Guss Barth, Elmenhorst). Plastik: H. 26 cm, Dm. 38 cm, Stele: H. 112 cm. - Das Werk befand sich als Gartenplastik in einem Hamburger Garten. - Literatur: WVZ Gädecke/Pfab Nr. 280. - Hamburger Bildhauer und führender Vertreter der Stahlplastik in Deutschland. Nach einer Ausbildung als Steinmetz studierte Pfab ab 1946 an der HfBK in der Klasse von Edwin Scharff. Zunächst führte er seine Bildwerke in Bronze aus, ab 1961 in Chrom-Nickel-Molybdän-Stahl, wofür er die Technik des Schweißens erlernte. Im Zentrum seines Schaffens stand die Großskulptur, bestimmt von prismatischen, kubischen und sphärischen Strukturen.Sein umfangreiches Oeuvre umfasst nicht nur zahlreiche Aufträge für den Öffentlichen Raum, sondern auch Kleinplastiken und Designobjekte.
