The Jonathan H. Kagan Collection of Ancient Greek Coins

SICILY. Panormos (as Ziz). Circa 405-380 BC. Litra (Silver, 12 mm, 0.96 g, 3 h). ZIZ (in Punic) Dolphin leaping right above waves; above, five pellets. Rev. Eagle with spread wings tearing at serpent held in its talons. Apparently unpublished, but cf. Buceti 48, HGC 2, 1042, and Jenkins, Punic 9 var. (all with a scallop rather than waves below the dolphin and with the eagle tearing at a hare rather than a snake). Very rare. Toned and clear. Slightly porous surfaces with traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Collection of Jonathan H. Kagan.
