Liberty Eagles 1881-O $10 AU50 NGC. The New Orleans Mint

Liberty Eagles
1881-O $10 AU50 NGC. The New Orleans Mint reopened in 1879 with the purpose of striking silver dollars. Nonetheless, the facility coined ten dollar pieces annually through 1883. Mintages of the denomination were tiny, though, relative to silver dollar output. The 1881-O eagle was limited to 8,350 pieces. The present example displays original orange color where luster remains. Open areas are butter-gold. Wear is slight but small marks are distributed, customary for the AU50 grade.
