A mid 19th century Staunton pattern boxwood and ebonised unweighted chess set by Jaques: some pieces bearing green paper registration kites to the bases, the white king stamped Jaques, London, the king 8.5cm high, the pawn 4.5cm. the black knights showing a brownish patination of the 1850's period, together with a Jaques box of the same period bearing green label.
