Australia South Australia. British Colony - Victoria gold
Australia
South Australia. British Colony - Victoria gold "Adelaide" Pound 1852 MS64 NGC, KM2, Fr-3, Rennik-pg. 21, McDonald-pg. 41. Type II reverse with dentilated/crenellated inner border. An elusive and sought-after issue, instantly recognizable by its prominent crown and the centrally located " VALUE ONE POUND" denomination. The intricate inner circle nicely frames this highly impressive specimen, occupied by razor-sharp motifs upon glossy and semi-reflective surfaces. Perhaps the minor opaque spot over the "15" in "15 GRS" prevented this near-gem from a higher grade, something that surely does not detract from the unique eye-appeal. Considered by some as Australia's first gold coin, this impressive piece will definitely pique the interest of advanced British type collectors.
