A LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF GUANYIN, MING DYNASTY
China, 1368-1644. Finely carved, seated in dhyanasana atop a lotus pedestal supported by a hexagonal base carved with a dragon-fish amid crashing waves. Wearing long flowing robes, her hands resting in her lap, her serene face with downcast eyes and a benevolent smile, the hair falling in tresses along the shoulders and secured by a paneled tiara. The separately carved mandorla inset at the back of the pedestal.

From a private estate in Ireland.
Condition:
Good condition with minor wear, natural imperfections including expected age cracks, signs of weathering, the lacquer commensurate with age and with several layers which have been renewed over a long period of time.
