Koehn, Geneve, white enamel face, black Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, case back with engraved monogram, 'MR', the inner case cover with dedication 'To our dear, good and faithful Mad.lle M. Reader, From Mr & Mrs John H. Harjes, August 1909' approx 3.2cm diameter, in fitted leather case, impressed 'MR' to cover, approx 34g gross.Note: John H. Harjes, 1830-1914, was a prominent banker and the partner of J.P. Morgan and founder of the Morgan-Harjes Bank of Paris. He was the father of Henry H. Harjes, later banker and senior partner of the same bank who played a significant role behind the scenes in World War I by negotiating sizable loans for the Allies and by his major role in organizing relief work.Provenance: A member of the Cartier family and thence by descent.
