Standing Liberty Quarters 1916 25C MS61 PCGS. The Standing

Standing Liberty Quarters
1916 25C MS61 PCGS. The Standing Liberty quarter design was produced with three distinctive design types within the first seven months of coinage. Collectors are widely familiar with the Type One and Type Two 1917 issues, but the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter represents a third type. The differences between this issue and the 1917 Type One go beyond mere "mushiness" in the obverse details. The gown folds around Liberty's figure are different in places, the stars and shield are cut differently into the die, the border reed-and-bead design breaks above Liberty's head, and the entire figure of Liberty is modeled different, with particular note given to the hair style. Thus, a truly complete type set of Standing Liberty quarters requires a 1916.
This is a pleasing low-end Mint State example. Satiny luster yields russet toning with minimal abrasions from handling. Slight strike softness on the leading edge of the eagle's left (facing) wing is noted, although Liberty's head detail is well defined despite falling short of the Full Head designation.
