A joined length of Italian 'ferronerie' type green voided velvet, c.15th century, with a repeating pattern of curling leaves and five-petal flowers, 87 x 183cm; together with another joined Italian green voided 'ferronerie' type velvet panel, c.15th century, stitched into three oval panels with gilt-metal thread borders, 126 x 95cm; and a joined panel of green velvet, 144 x 99cm (3)Provenance: The Carmen Thyssen Collection.Footnotes: Note: The RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) has a very similar velvet panel to the 'ferronerie' examples in the current lot dated to 1475-1500, ref: 35.550.Condition Report: The first described: this panel is formed of sections of various shapes and sizes and then joined. There are areas of wear to the velvet, particularly along one long side. Along this same edge there are some tears and fraying. The opposite long edge has a small cut section. The panel has some splits, one of which has a patched repair visible from the reverse. Some stitching between joined panels is coming apart and there are some stitched repairs in places. The second described: heavily worn in places with splits, tears and fraying. The colour has faded in areas. The gilt-thread border is detached in places. Each of the three joined panels is itself comprised of joined sections which have repaired stitching and some separation between joined sections. The reverse with two faded circular ink stamps. The third described: areas of wear and an area with splits and losses which is extremely fragile. Further smaller losses and small stitched repairs. The outline of a former stitched pattern is visible. It is later backed with hanging loops.
