Burma
Pagan Kyat CS 1222 (1860) XF45 NGC, KM16, Robinson & Shaw-10.3. An extremely rare type representing the obverse peacock with folded tail feathers. Lightly circulated in line with the grade, but showing abundant subdued luster and limited actual wear; this issue was generally rather crudely made which likely explains much of the flatness to the high points. Seldom seen at auction, the only other specimen of this type we can find sold in April 2018, an AU53 which realized $30,000 hammer. Although a lower certified grade, the present offering appears superior to this other example with bolder detail across the entirety of the devices, and we anticipate a comparable bidder response.
