Obv: Crowned bust of Menelik II, dated EE 1892 below with surrounding inscription. Rev: 7-line inscription reading: S.A.I. & R. / LE PRINCE TAFFARI / Héritier de la Couronne / et / Régent de l'Empire d'Ethiopie / Visite La Monnaie / Le 19 Mai 1924. A rare issue, gray toned throughout with multicolored iridescence that mostly clings to the edges and sporadic patches of deeper tone on both sides. Considering the usage of the obverse die that was previously used to strike one of the presentation crowns of Menelik II, this mint visit commemorative would make a companion piece for a specialized collection of either sovereign.
