Bank of Madras, India, 10 Rupees, 1 May 1845, serial number 12092, hand signed by John Heyman, several purple purple PAID handstamps, annotation on reverse, corrosion across body of note, overall good, this signature type seldom seen with only a couple of notes known in private hands, extremely rare! Pick S141, Razack 1C.3.1.1 £7,000-£9,000 --- John Heyman began his career as a cashier at the London and Westminster Bank, before becoming an accountant at the Bank of Madras, where he spent the remainder of his working life. After the resignation of S.D Birch, Heyman was promoted to the highest position of the bank as Secretary and Treasurer on 1st of February 1845. Sadly Heyman died on the 26th August 1845 at the young age of 28, only months after his promotion . The only notes ever signed by him are 10 Rupees, dated 1 May 1845, such as this one, making this note a true rarity among Bank of Madras notes.
