Christophe Fratin (1801 - 1864)A pair of Arab stallions fighting (c. 1860)Bronze with brown patina and black undertonesProduced using the sand casting process in ParisSigned 'FRATIN'Fratin's masterful hand is exemplified in this particular cast though the fine modelling with a great sense of proportion and confirmation and a clear understanding of a horse’s anatomy. Fratin studied sculpture under the artist Charles Augustin Pioche (1762 - 1839). He then moved to Paris where he was accepted as a pupil of the painter Gericault. Fratin first exhibited his work at the Paris Salon as early as 1831.
