Ireland, Bank of Ireland 13.2.1907 P-62d PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 1 Pound

Prior to the partition of Ireland various Irish banks headquartered around the country issued notes for circulation. One Irish law stipulated that every branch were the notes were payable would have to be listed on each note, resulting in longs lists of iconic Irish town names such as Ballinasloe and Clonakilty. As a rule, these early Irish notes are very scarce and are almost never seen in higher grades. This particular example is one of the nicest we have seen of this type from the Bank if Ireland, and it retains strong originality. A contemporary annotation is found on the back, dated 1912 at Dublin. A wonderful opportunity for the Irish specialist and note to be missed. PMG mentions "Spindle Holes; Annotations".
