A Victorian Silver-Mounted Horse’s Hoof Inkwell, The Silver Mounts by William Thomas Wright and Frederick Davies, London, 1874, Retailed by Thornhill, 144 Bond Street, London the silver mounts chased to simulate hair, the hinged cover engraved with an inscription, the natural hoof with metal horseshoe 13cm wide The inscription reads 'Schumla Bulgarian Pony Ridden by Capt’n R. Hamilton Grenadier Guards Crimea 1854-5' . Fully marked on side and further part marked inside cover. The inside of the cover further stamped with retailers name. There is some wear ot the marks but they are in general legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The mount and horseshoe each partly detached from the hoof. The horseshoe somewhat ill-fitting.
