Rarity, prestige, power - a flawless recipe!
The Ferrari 400 is the Prancing Horse brand's touring car, with a taut, edgy style that Pininfarina has dressed with elegance and sportiness. Built on a 365 GT4 2+2 base, the 4.3 V12 is increased to 4.8 and offers 340 hp installed at the front of the car. From its predecessor, Pininfarina modified only a few details, notably the headlamps and front apron. 1979 saw the birth of the 400i, which saw its carburetors replaced by Bosch K-Jetronic injection and its power increased to 315 hp. American in origin, this V12 convertible is quite rare.
It's a sporty car that's both fun to drive and family-friendly. Its typical '80s design marks a break with older Ferraris. Although Enzo saw his cars only in terms of racing, he understood that to finance his cars and their increasingly expensive development, he had to sell sports cars, sedans, GTs and even 2+2s. Richard Straman's workshop in California was responding to an American demand for a convertible, which Ferrari refused to produce. So he developed a convertible conversion kit with the necessary reinforcements. The car was an immediate success with an elitist clientele - Rob Stewart had one.
The example we are offering for sale features a metallic gray livery matched by a black leather interior. This Ferrari 400 cabriolet Straman has an automatic gearbox and was imported from the USA in 2015. The owner undertook a major overhaul of the engine, replacing the crankshaft bearings and connecting rods, changing the segmentation and replacing the entire timing system. The cylinder heads were overhauled and tested, guides and valves replaced, and a new ignition head fitted. The upholstery and soft-top are new, and the bodywork is in excellent, shiny condition, with no signs of corrosion.
This rare Ferrari is ideal for seaside cruising to the sound of Rod Stewart.
